There is something delicious brewing in Falkenberg. Swerl Coffee Roasters has evolved from being an online coffee subscription and mobile coffee shop, to now being a specialty coffee roastery that source their beans around the world.
The Mercedes Benz van they use as a mobile café was quickly identified as an important identity carrier. The van is from 1972, which immediately presented us with a time in space to draw inspiration from. I put on my best flower power suit and went to town on drawing chunky and oval serifs, resulting in a groovy wordmark reminiscent of the hippie era with subtle hints to the shape of the coffee bean. The swerly composition mimics the art on a perfect latte, while also telling the story of their mission - To carefully source and roast beans, caring for the whole chain of production. From the people on the farm planting and harvesting the beans, to transportation, to roasting and finally to that fresh pressed espresso oozing from your cup. The journey from coffee branch to coffee splash.
This journey has informed and is represented in the brand extensions, from the very Henri Matisse-looking brand symbol, the responsive logo system, the falcon mascot derived from the Falkenberg city crest and extending all the way over to the packaging design. Just like Swerls world - Everything is connected, coffee is fun and it thrives organically if you care for it.
